BISHOP OYEJOLA ORDAINS FIVE DEACONS


Bishop of the Catholic diocese of Osogbo Most Rev. John Akinkunmi Oyejola, has ordained five Seminarians as Deacons of the Church, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church Ifetedo Osun State, on Friday 21st April 2017, the first ordination preceding his one year anniversary as the bishop of the diocese on June 30, 2017.
The ordinands were Deacons Peter Abiona OlaOluwa, Oladele Michael Ige, Ndidiaha Nicholas Nwogu, Funso Michael Odusanwo and Olufemi Simeon Oyetunmbi .
Congratulating them, Bishop Oyejola enjoined them to remain focused and dedicated to their vocation, and also commended thanked his predecessor, the Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese, Archbishop Gabriel ‘Leke Abegunrin for he his only building on the good foundation he has laid down.
Delivering his homily at the ordination Mass, one of the bishop’s secretaries, Rev Fr. Joseph Ochonogor advised the deacons to be effective evangelizers, generous as Deacons and were entrusted the ministry of charity.
He enjoined them to lead by examples, put the words of God which they preach into practice and most importantly have a good relationship with Christ himself.
Fr. Ochonogor also advised all Christians to make God their priority as every Catholic faithful’s charging point is the Blessed Sacrament while the fuel is Christ himself.
Expressing their heartfelt gratitude each of the deacons in their separate interviews gave all glory to the almighty God for Him alone has made the day a reality, even though they felt unworthy, He made them worthy to be evangelizers of Christ.
They appreciated Archbishop Abegunrin and Bishop Oyejola for their fatherly role, Priests and everyone that has contributed to the success and most especially their parents and families.
It was after the Mass that Bishop Oyejola announced that the Vocations Director Rev. Fr. Augustine Ogundele will be out of the country for a while when Rev. Fr. Ochonogor will be the Interim Vocations Director, similarly Rev Fr. Paul Idowu Awowole will also go for Sabbatical leave.
The great occasion was witnessed by about 50 Priests, the religious and well wishers.
